For Paraplanners ·
What you'll accomplish
You have a stack of your own study notes, a full-time job and an exam on the calendar. You will set up a ChatGPT Project that quizzes you from those notes, tells you when a question goes beyond them, and explains wrong answers by pointing back to what you wrote. It is a study partner for the evening commute or the lunch hour. It is not an authority.
This guide builds a Project, which keeps files, instructions and chats together.
What you'll need
Keep client cases out of your notes. This Project is for study material only. If a note started life as a real household, rewrite it as a textbook-style case before it goes in.
Copyright check: Upload your own notes. A course provider's question bank is copyrighted, so use it as a source only if the provider's terms allow uploading it.
What you should see: a handful of files, each under one topic heading. Troubleshooting: If your notes are photos of handwriting, type the key points. Typed text is easier for the tool to quote back.
What you should see: an empty project page with options to add files and set instructions. Troubleshooting: If you do not see Projects, check what your plan includes or look in the app's current menu for a new-project option.
Look for an add files option on the project page and upload your note files. Search results for the OpenAI help page say you can add PDFs, spreadsheets, documents and pasted text as reference material. If the upload stops partway, you may have reached the file cap for your plan. Combine small files into larger ones.
Open the project settings (the help page snippet points to a more-options menu and then Project settings; the label may differ in your app) and paste this into the instructions area.
You are a study coach for someone preparing for the CFP exam. Use only the uploaded study notes as your source. When I ask for a quiz, write one question at a time and wait for my answer. Then tell me whether I was right and explain by pointing to the note I wrote. If a question would go beyond my notes, say "This goes beyond your notes" and give a general explanation labelled as general, not from the notes. Never state a tax limit, age, threshold or deadline as current fact. Remind me that those change every year and that I must check them in the current official study materials. Do not discuss real clients. Keep each explanation under 150 words.
What you should see: the instructions saved. They apply inside this Project. Troubleshooting: If the coach answers from general knowledge without saying so, add "Always state whether an answer comes from my notes."
Open a new chat inside the Project and ask for a short quiz on one topic.
At the end of a session, ask for a list of the topics you missed. Add those to your next session's focus.
Flashcards
From my uploaded notes on insurance planning, make 15 flashcards. Put the term on the front and my definition on the back. Add the file name under each.
Explain a wrong answer
I answered that wrong. Explain the concept using my notes, then give me one similar question to try.
Weak-spot review
Based on this chat, list the three topics I missed most and what to reread in my notes.
Case question
Write a short invented case with two people and a goal, then ask me which concepts from my notes apply. Do not give me the answer until I respond.
